What made you decide to take this course? What are your learning goals this term?

I enrolled in EDCI 337 because one of my group members from EDCI 339 last semester highly recommended this course. I really enjoy the online learning format and overall layout of EDCI courses and am very excited for this semester. My learning goals for this term are to better understand the various types of media and how they can be used to enhance learning.

and explain why your examples belong in each category. Are there any grey areas where the categories are not clear?

  • Interactive media = Video Game
    • Interactive media can be defined as any digital media that allows an individual to collaborate with the piece of technology (Elon University).
    • I selected a video game as an example of interactive media because an individual can interact with this technology by making commands through the controller to affect the output.
  • Multimedia = Film, music, podcasts, radio, and so on.
    • Multimedia refers to the combination of multiple media elements, such as video, sound, and text that an individual can interact with (Learn.org)
    • I selected this image to represent multimedia because it illustrates various types of media that can be combined for individuals to interact and engage with.
  • Interactive multimedia = Virtual Reality
    • Interactive multimedia refers to the combination of various media types that an individual can interact with and control (IntechOpen).
    • I chose virtual reality to represent interactive multimedia because it combines more than one type of media and the individual controls the images they look at on the screen through their movements.

What do you think makes it interesting and engaging for you?

  • I am interested in interactive multimedia because I believe technologies such as virtual reality are going to become increasingly popular in today’s society and the future of education.
